The state after drinking reflects the habitual tendencies of the manas, revealing its inherent state. Alcohol anesthetizes the brain nerves, weakening the functions of the five sensory faculties. Consequently, the discernment power of the arising six consciousnesses diminishes. Thus, these six investigators cannot accurately perceive the objects of the six sense fields. The manas either severs or partially severs the sources of information, rendering the advisory and assisting role of the mental consciousness largely ineffective. With the weakened thinking capacity of the mental consciousness, its ability to supervise, guide, and regulate the manas diminishes, allowing the manas to act according to its intrinsic nature. At this point, everything relies solely on the manas's own wisdom, and its inherent nature and qualities are fully revealed. The saying "drunken words are honest words" means that the words spoken after drinking are entirely the true voice of the person's manas, reflecting their genuine thoughts, stripped of the mental consciousness's concealment and pretense. What people often refer to as "drinking character" and "personal character" point to the qualities of the manas—this is a person's true, original face.
